Cities and urban regions are among the most dynamic land-use systems in the world, with dramatic consequences for the provision of ecosystem services and the livelihood of people. Planning is a multifaceted activity with extensive experience in the management of these urbanization processes. However, our understanding of planning’s contribution to shaping urban land use, form and structure is still incomplete, with serious consequences for the efficacy of urban planning and land change models. This international conference aims to bring together the community of scholars working on planning evaluation and urban modelling. The participants are offered the opportunity to present their current research and to discuss how theoretical developments, data sources, comparative studies and modelling approaches might advance the field. The conference is financially supported by the CONCUR project and sustained by Swiss Federal Research Institute WSL.
