The UNECE/UNICEF Group of Experts on Statistics on Children is a specialized expert body established by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and UNICEF to enhance the quality, comparability, and use of statistics on children. The Group brings together national statisticians, international experts, policymakers, and practitioners to strengthen child-focused data systems and improve evidence-based decision-making.
Through regular meetings, technical discussions, and coordinated work programmes, the Group addresses key statistical challenges related to child well-being, including health, education, protection, poverty, and social inclusion. The expert group works on methodological guidance, data collection standards, indicators development, and capacity-building initiatives to promote consistent data practices across countries.
By improving the availability and quality of child-centred statistics, the UNECE/UNICEF Group of Experts on Statistics on Children supports national and international efforts to monitor progress on children’s rights, policy outcomes, and global agendas such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
