The 10th Session of the Meeting of the Parties (MOP-10) to the Espoo Convention and the 6th Session of the Meeting of the Parties (MOP-6) to the Protocol on Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is a major international environmental governance event organized under the auspices of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). The meeting will bring together government representatives, environmental authorities, international organizations, experts, and stakeholders to review progress and strengthen cooperation on environmental assessment and sustainable development across borders. The sessions are scheduled to take place from 1–4 December 2026 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Espoo Convention promotes the assessment of environmental impacts in a transboundary context, ensuring that countries consult one another on projects that may have significant environmental effects across national borders. The Protocol on Strategic Environmental Assessment expands these principles to policies, plans, and programmes, supporting informed decision-making and sustainable development objectives.
During MOP-10 and MOP-6, Parties will discuss the implementation of the Convention and Protocol, adopt decisions on compliance and future work programmes, exchange best practices, and address emerging challenges related to environmental impact assessment, strategic environmental assessment, climate resilience, biodiversity protection, energy transition projects, and public participation in environmental decision-making. The meetings provide an important platform for strengthening international cooperation and promoting environmentally sustainable development across the UNECE region and beyond.
