The Fifteenth meeting of the Open-ended Working Group of the Basel Convention (OEWG-15) is a key international meeting supporting the implementation of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal. The meeting brings together Parties to the Convention, observers, international organizations, and technical experts to advance work on environmentally sound waste management.
During OEWG-15, participants will consider technical guidelines, legal and policy matters, and implementation challenges related to hazardous and other wastes. The agenda typically includes issues such as waste classification, plastic waste management, e-waste, transboundary movements, capacity-building, and compliance support, contributing to effective and coordinated global action.
As an open-ended subsidiary body of the Conference of the Parties, the Open-ended Working Group plays a critical role in preparing decisions and recommendations for consideration by the Basel Convention Conference of the Parties (COP). The OEWG-15 meeting strengthens international cooperation and supports the Convention’s objective of protecting human health and the environment from the adverse effects of hazardous wastes.
