The World Resources Forum Association is delighted to announce its 2025 Conference ‘New Resource Strategies for a Fair and Sustainable Future‘, which will take place on September 2025 at the CICG in Geneva. The event will bring together international stakeholders from industry, policy, science and civil society for a solutions-oriented dialogue on how to improve the governance and management of resources across three key resource hotspots.
Natural resource governance plays a crucial role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Paris Agreement, and global sustainability targets related to climate, biodiversity, and pollution. Despite efforts, the consumption of natural resources has tripled in the past 50 years, continuing to rise at over 2.3% annually. Without significant changes, resource extraction could increase by nearly 60% from 2020 levels by 2060, vastly exceeding what is necessary to meet human needs sustainably.
The latest WRF Conference in 2023 called for a paradigm shift towards a more sustainable and equitable use of resources, with a focus on three major transitions, towards 1) a sufficient society, 2) regenerative value chains, and 3) a sustainability-focused digital world. Building upon this dialogue, WRF25 aims to develop, promote and assess effective, multi-stakeholder strategies to ensure sustainability and fairness across three critical hotspots of resource use and socio-environmental impact.
