The SGAR-SSAR Congress Committee is pleased to invite you to the upcoming congress, taking place October 28 to 30, 2021, in Geneva. This meeting was jointly organised with the Swiss Association for Anaesthesia Care (SIGA/FSIA). We are very optimistic that the congress will take place in person at Palexpo Geneva. Virtual eSwissAnaesthesia 2020 was a complete success; however, making personal contacts and networking are an important aspect of our annual meetings. It is a great pleasure for me to give a short overview of the preliminary programme. Thursday morning you are invited to attend captivating refresher courses covering important perioperative and pain management topics. An interesting workshop covering important aspects of A-QUA and A-QUA+ will be offered as well. In the afternoon, satellite meetings of SARA, SACTA, ASOBA, SGKA-SSAP and SAOA will take place. The interactive pain symposium is focusing on state-of-the-art issues of pain medicine. In the evening, the best clinical research and publications will be honoured during the awards ceremony at the get together. On Friday, excellent national and international speakers will provide their insights on the subject of “The power and challenges of interdisciplinarity in perioperative medicine”. We would like to focus on the following main topics: 1) Extraordinary medical conditions and effects on perioperative medicine, 2) Unmet needs of interdisciplinary collaboration, and 3) Gender aspects of perioperative medicine. In addition to the aforementioned keynote lectures, nursing-focused workshops will be offered. The general assembly of the SGAR-SSAR and SIGA/FSIA will take place on Friday morning from 10:30 to noon. The languages of the general assemblies will remain German and French. All members are cordially invited. On Saturday, we will offer attractive workshops addressing knowledge and skills in the field of perioperative clinical practice, basic life support, transplantation and ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia. Exciting symposia will also illuminate aspects of communication skills and addiction. Highlights of the social program are a networking event on Thursday evening in the industrial exhibition and the congress evening on Friday beginning at 19:30, located at the picturesque Restaurant Parc des Bastions. We are convinced that the broad programme of SwissAnaesthesia 2021 will arouse your interest. It will be our pleasure to welcome you to Geneva, and hope that you’ll arrive in large numbers to trade experiences and participate in discussions sparked by interesting presentations and workshops. I also would like to acknowledge the commitment of the exhibitors, who complement and round off the programme through their annual industry exhibitions and symposia. My SGAR-SSAR and SIGA/FSIA colleagues from the Congress Committee and the BBS Congress team have also provided their spirit, support and expertise – factors that are essential for a successful congress. I would like to thank everyone for her or his valuable contributions.
